Photonics Meets Robotics: AI Success Stories

The cross-trade fair special show "Photonics Meets Robotics: AI Success Stories" shows how the worlds of the Laser World of Photonics and automatica complement each other perfectly in practice. The link: AI.

Winning Team: Let the special show "Photonics Meets Robotics: AI Success Stories" in Hall A3.433 inspire you to find out how you too can use state-of-the-art AI methods to bridge the gap between photonics and automation. In addition, selected specialist presentations - over the entire duration of the trade fair and in a total of 15 moderated slots - will give you insights into best practices from the manufacturing industry and application-oriented research.

Range of topics and exhibits

The special show illustrates how the vision of self-learning production machines and fully automated first-time-right (FTR) production becomes tangible when artificial intelligence brings together the best of photonics and robotics. AI-based product design shortens time-to-market, state-of-the-art machine learning methods increase the quality of production and at the same time ensure full process control, while learning data-based systems detect and correct deviations in the ongoing process.

Experience this:

  • a mobile repair robot for the mobile repair of damaged and worn areas using the laser metal deposition (LMD) process (Picum MT GmbH and Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT) and AI-based process optimization for LMD
  • a smart articulated arm welding robot for AI-supported laser welding processes that can be viewed remotely via VR glasses (Carl Cloos Schweisstechnik GmbH, Scansonic MI GmbH, oculavis GmbH, 4D Photonics GmbH and Fraunhofer ILT)
  • AI methods for camera-based activity recognition of humans (Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA)
  • solutions for robustness analysis of convolutional neural networks (CNN) used in inline quality control (Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA)
  • highly flexible AI-based robotics for logistics and assembly
  • solutions for automated AI-supported engineering
