World of QUANTUM addresses industrial applications

March 15, 2023

  • World of QUANTUM is establishing itself as the leading platform for the international quantum community
  • Second edition once again as part of LASER World of PHOTONICS
  • Extensive supporting program promotes knowledge transfer and networking

The international quantum community is taking shape. Research institutes, companies and start-ups are working hard to drive forward practical applications of quantum technology solutions. Messe München is seizing this momentum with World of QUANTUM: After its successful premiere at LASER World of PHOTONICS 2022, the new trade fair is being held from June 27 to 30, 2023 with an even more varied supporting program. Parallel to the exhibition area, a specialist conference, a practical program of talks and discussion, and a hackathon will offer opportunities to exchange expertise and talk in person with quantum research pioneers and industrial application trailblazers.

With almost 9,000 trade visitors, 75 exhibitors, and 128 specialist presentations, the premiere of World of QUANTUM in June 2022 gave everyone involved a taste for more. There was a spirit of optimism, and the quantum community immediately made the new platform its own to establish networks. “Our basic idea for setting up World of QUANTUM as an independent trade fair within LASER World of PHOTONICS proved to be a resounding success,” as Exhibition Director Anke Odouli explains, saying that there are extensive synergies between both trade fairs, since quantum technology is largely based on photonics and makes use of precision lasers and photonics components for many of its solutions.

Three pillars: Exhibit. Inform. Network.

The overlaps between the young World of QUANTUM and the established world’s leading trade fair for photonics components, systems and applications have a major influence on the trade fair concept. After all, alongside the exhibition area with leading players from the field of quantum technology, it also provides space for information about the latest projects and a networking area. All three pillars—Exhibit, Inform, and Network—create points of contact between the exhibitors of both trade fairs and the professional visitors. Partners from both worlds come together, can exchange expertise, envisage projects, or also get in touch with investors.

From basic research to the hackathon

World of QUANTUM is accompanied by a first-rate supporting program in which knowledge transfer takes center stage. It spans the range from basic research and practical panels to the hackathon, focusing on quantum technology applications in computing, communication, and imaging and sensor technology. Also planned is a panel discussion by the Quantum Technology & Application Consortium—QUTAC, in which a dozen major companies are preparing industrial applications in the field of quantum computing. The Munich Quantum Valley together with IBM Quantum Research, Bayern Innovativ with the PlanQK network, and the German Industrial Alliance for Quantum Security (DIVQSec) will also offer their own specialist panel discussions. The two-day Qiskit Hackathon organized by IBM Quantum, and a panel discussion on the career prospects in the young industry round out the supporting program. At the World of Photonics Congress 2023, taking place as always at the Messe München ICM – International Congress Center, the European Quantum Electronics Conference (EQEC) will focus on quantum research.

Meeting place for leading international players

Alongside intensive knowledge transfer, World of QUANTUM 2023 will offer the opportunity to meet leading companies and networks in the international quantum community. In addition to the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), currently with a list of 80 projects from 221 partners in 31 countries on its European map of funded quantum research, they include the Dutch network Quantum Delta NL, QUTAC and research organizations such as the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), or the Institut d’Optique Graduate School (IOGS) in Paris. The leading quantum computing providers IBM Quantum, Q.ANT, AQT and QuiX Quantum are also represented. Last but not least, numerous components and solutions providers as well as users, including heavyweights like Toptica, Rohde & Schwarz, Bosch Quantum Sensing, or the new exhibitors Quantinuum and Qruise, have announced their attendance. “The response shows that the international quantum community has been waiting for the right trade fair and networking platform. And that’s exactly what we offer with World of QUANTUM at an important technology location like Munich,” says Exhibition Director Anke Odouli.

World of QUANTUM and LASER World of PHOTONICS will be held at the Munich exhibition grounds from June 27 to 30, 2023, at the same time as automatica, the leading exhibition for automation and robotics. One ticket is valid for all three events.
